Female for a long time have been feeling inimical and oppressed by men in the rap and hip-hop scene. But Blimes has resisted the valid restrictions placed upon women in the field. Consequently, the wave of rising female artists swept true rap and hip-hop, providing an opportunity to develop and feel safe at that.
Blimes cooperation with for single “Hot Damn” started from hiring her by Method Man from Wu-Tang Clan to play as a fight coach on reputable TV show Drop the Mic. In March this year, she released her solo album Castles, starring singles “Ask Forgiveness” and “Snake Skin Boots”.
Also, during running on a duo album with her long-standing friend and rapper, Gifted Gab at the same time growing her all-female record label, Peach House Records that she established in 2016. The artist has an impressive list of successful achievements through the last years and the whole career that took a lot of effort but eventually led to purpose to aim.
The artist has an impressive list of successful achievements through the last years and the whole career that took a lot of effort but eventually led to purpose to aim. In her works, Blimes uses the music styles she grew up with – funk, soul, hip-hop, and blues. She was brought up in blues musicians’ family with all the greatest compositions. “It’s vibrant, quirky, funky, silly and playful, yet vulnerable and deep.”
Blimes perceived battle rapping through middle school, passionated by Coolio’s “Gangster’s Paradise” and the art of being able to make poetry and rhythm really fast. That was the possibility of getting recognition when she was harassed at school for her character and sexuality.
“I didn’t feel entirely fulfilled with battle rap”, as she sad. “Even though it taught me to be ready, focused, thicker-skinned and allowed me to meet so many influential people and prep me for this tough genre, I had to step away because I wasn’t being who I was. With battle rap, you’re putting on an act – a facade as a tough person, preparing the worst insults that you can come up with for your opponent and for yourself. I had to walk away from that as it wasn’t in line with what I really wanted my listeners to hear. I thought I had to change my name to move away from it all because I wasn’t ready to let battle rap into this new chapter of my life. It was when I got that call from Method Man, asking me to be a part of the show that I realised how important that part of my past was.”

Well, the main Blimes’ purpose is a mission “to show the next kid who might be suffering, that there’s a home in the arts for them.” As long as hip-hop is rough, honest and tough genre, artists could be themselves and lead the idea they want to achieve. “I was bullied, outcasted, mistreated because of my weight, sexuality, interests, clothes… It’s taken me years to feel comfortable in my own skin. And now, I have to lead by example and so I’m working really hard to deliver across all platforms my message to the youth that you are worthy of love, regardless of what you look like, your sexual orientation, your gender orientation, your body, the color of your skin”, sad Blimes and inspired millions of girls to be themselves.
