DK was born September 3, 1984, in Birmingham, AL as Dwight Kimbrough to Dwight Kimbrough, Sr., a pastor, and Sandra Ray Swinson, a chef; It was a recipe for greatness. Growing up among the vibrant and diverse music scene in Birmingham, AL was an environment full of inspiration and stimulation for DK to feed off. At age 6 he began singing in the church. During his youth, he learned to play the guitar and became a master drummer.
DK is a passionate and committed music professional, with the talent and drive to succeed.
Combining an unmatched passion for music with his natural talent, DK is pursuing his dream of
being influential music professional. Growing up, DK was influenced by Ron Isley, Marvin Gaye, R Kelly, Joe, Prince & Micheal Jackson. “Each time I heard these artists I felt what he was trying to communicate! I could feel
the artistry awakening in me!”, said DK. He began writing and performing rap 18 years ago
because it was popular with his friends. DK developed his own style; He was good at it. You
can judge for yourself on the song “Wetta”.
Though he started as a rapper that’s not where his heart lies, as he explains: “Rap was my foray into the world of the creative arts, and I did really well with it. I enjoyed it. It helped me to further develop myself, my gifts, and my talents.” He continued: “Four years ago I began writing and performing R&B. R&B is where I found my true passion. Today, I am living my best musical life because I am eating, sleeping, breathing my true passion. I am giving the world the opportunity to feel – to experience — my fire and my passions. There is no better feeling than that.” DK is a dynamic, creative, fiery, passionate creative who has chosen to share his gift with the world. He is creating his legacy! When asked, “When people mention DK whose names do you want to be remembered with?” his response was simple: “I want to be remembered with the greats of R&B and Soul – Prince, Ron Isley, Usher & Eric Bellinger. When you hear DK, this is the heart of what you’re hearing.” After working with Michelle Young of Lady Red Entertainment & Elite Promotions, he has been privileged to open up for Urban Mystic, J. Howell, Till1, Tony Tatum & Jeff Floyd to name a few.
