SMOKIN MARY PLANT releases “Living in the City”. Meet a talented rising star

SMOKIN MARY PLANT

A tetralogy is a group of four related works of literature or music. In music, that is exactly what Smokin Mary Plant has created: four studio albums that are a body of works. The visionary behind this concept is Mary Plant, a songwriter, vocalist, guitarist, and percussionist. Over the years, the band has welcomed the creativity of other musicians, both in the studios and on stage.

Last month saw the band release their new single, “Living in the City”. Available from iTunes and Apple Music. The song has all the vibes of smokin’ Mary Plant and more. The lead guitarist, Ken Crudgington, spins ear-catching riffs, and Marys’ vocals come in for the delivery. The video makes for a great representation of the song’s lyrics and uses band footage. Mary Plant was born in Birmingham, UK. Her musical talents were discovered after she learned to play five chords on the guitar. She took her songs to the streets, honing her skills, started the band, and performed on many stages across Europe and Los Angeles. The band creates songs in rock, soul, and psychedelic genres. The lyrics of love, life, and a better way for the future are illuminated by her powerful voice.

She has the look of Erykah Badu and Whitney Houston. Her ethos is the same punk attitude of Bob Marley, Grace Jones, and Skunk Anansie. Her vocals are distinct and original, embodying the classic theme of love and longing. Her songs, such as ‘Absolute Love’ from the album ‘We’re Punk,’ with its soft melody and minimalist rhythm, written and recorded at Peter Gabriel’s Real World studios, display a vulnerability liken to that of Billie Holliday and Amy Winehouse. She has albums and always comes prepared with a band, and anyone hearing and seeing this phenomenon always leaves wanting more. Her other albums are ‘Harmony Through Conflict,’ ‘Join The LoverLution’ and ‘Be Harmless.’
